healing our relationship with our bodies - with visual art, NVC and IPNB
This is the recordings of my online live course (Zoom) on transforming and healing your relationship with your body through visual art with NVC and Neurobiology. As you would be watching and following the methods, you can leave your questions or share artwork via comments and attachments, and I will offer support and guidance to your learning the skills that you would be able to use daily. You may find the methods useful if you are experiencing any of the following:
- feeling disconnected from one's body
- one's body feeling trapped in its environment during the pandemic
- one's body struggling to get to sleep or stay asleep
- one's body having an uneasy relationship with food and/or eating
- one's body getting sick
- one's body changing with age
- one's body that would not or cannot do what one wants the body to do
- one's body that craves something - and can't get it
- one's body wearing "battle marks" - the scars and other traces of life
- one's body that is different in any way (colour, weight, race, ability levels, gender etc) from what is "approved" or "desired" by the society - and feeling the impact of it
- one's body that is in pain
We will journey towards making friends with our bodies - with body-sense-based tuning-in exercises and various art methods and techniques. The body-sense based exercises boost our brain integration and bring our right hemisphere online. With practise, they structure right hemisphere.

We will cover the following methods:
- body-sense based "Inner Landscape" method - a map to start your journey that you can come back to time and time again
- body-sense based "Self-portrait" (be assured, with this abstract technique, even children can follow it) - exploring your relationship with your face towards self-acceptance and self-warmth
- body-sense based "Making Friends, Receiving Gifts" - an art dialogue with any body part that is troubling you/ you are struggling with/ where you'd like to have a more friendly relationship with it
- body-sense based empathy and transformation technique "Lifting the Rug" - a movement towards body-related DISGUST or CONTEMPT feelings
- "The Body and the Systemic" - acknowledging where you vs systemic and various things bigger that one human body, and gifting your body with blessings using "art/resource" approach, wherever your body is just right now

Can I join if I absolutely can't draw?
Yes! We believe that with this step-by-step method, as long as you can hold a pen, breathe and watch a 5-10 minute video and follow instructions in it, you would be able to use this approach. What art materials do I need
- a fineliner (a black ballpoint pen will do at a pinch),
- a piece of paper (printer paper will do) and
- some pencils, crayons, markers or felt tips (whatever you have at home will do!)
- optional: scraps of colourful paper, fabric, anything to collage with, scissors and a glue stick.
If you want to get more things or are really into your art materials, we share various tips on art materials as one of the videos in the course. The sky is your limit!

Your Instructor
Olga Nguyen has been drawing and painting since 1984. She has been exploring and sharing art approaches to healing trauma (Neuroart/Visual NVC) since 2017 . Olga now holds a degree in Art Therapy. Olga also brings to it her skills as CNVC CT (since 2012) and an assessor for CNVC . Olga has facilitated offline trainings in the UK, Ireland, Russia, Ukraine, Malaysia, Vietnam and the USA since 2007.
